I Write Real Country - Today's True Stories
"If I ever have a daughter I might like to name her Kentucky.
She’ll grow up beautiful and misunderstood, sharp and forgiving, she’ll know how to handle her losses, and besides,
I think Kentucky’s a right pretty name." Louisville poet, Eric Cecil, from his book A-Train Blues
My Father, Curtis Perkins, agreed with Eric, and so, here I am.
I am of Scottish/Irish descent - aged 31, and a married mother of two teenage boys. I am a no-nonsense Christian who believes in hard work, faith, and family, which I raise with my husband Eli,
I raise my boys in a tight-knit, traditional household, teaching them self-reliance, faith, and the value of hard work..Until I get the dollars coming in, I work two jobs at Waffle House and Rubys.
· I live down a holler in Rattlesnake Ridge: A rugged, heavily forested Appalachian area, full of winding backroads. Life here is tough but honest. People keep to themselves but look out for their own. My neighbors in Rooster Run: are a small, old-school Kentucky community built around a country store with one gas pump. Everyone knows everyone, and if they don’t recognize your truck, they’ll ask who your daddy is. I ain't moving.
Despite hustling hard to provide for my kids I don't complain about the long shifts and low wages cause I've got a dream bigger than a tip jar.
Even so, I am not interested in fame, fake smiles, or industry games.
I don't care about the spotlight—just getting paid for my songs.
